Google Implements Core Algorithm Update

That shifting you felt beneath your feet in early March of this year (2018) wasn’t an earth quake.  Per se.  It was a huge core update to the Google Algorithm that probably dropped your rankings significantly.

If you’re a Samson Media SEO client you may see a large shift in your search engine rankings for your major keywords, and not necessarily in a good way.

If you want to delve into all the “whys,’ check out this post on Search Engine Roundtable that provides some explanations from Google search spokesperson Danny Sullivan.

But the main purpose why we are writing this blog post is to not only make you aware of this update but to shed some light on what to do.

In a word…nothing.

Here’s a direct quote from the Google Dome as reported here.

The answer, according to Google, is really nothing. Google went on to explain that “as with any update, some sites may note drops or gains.” Google says your site may be fine, “there’s nothing wrong with pages that may now perform less well,” they said. “Instead, it’s that changes to our systems are benefiting pages that were previously under-rewarded,” Google added.

“There’s no “fix” for pages that may perform less well other than to remain focused on building great content,” Google said. So wait it out and improve your overall site and “over time, it may be that your content may rise relative to other pages,” Google says.

While you may experience a dip in rankings, please know that it should only be temporary.  We use only legit, solid, White Hat SEO techniques so the foundation of what we’re doing for you to rank are solid.  Similar to the stock market, keywords rise and fall every day and usually stay within a few positions, either way, for months at a time.  But slow and steady wins the race and algorithm updates are merely a bump in the road.  So strap in and hang on!
